2015 Leica Geosystems Tour – write up

The month of June saw Leica Geosystems back on the road for our ‘Your World, Our Solutions’ Tour. Starting on the 8th June in Ireland at Carton House, Dublin, the tour offered our customers the opportunity to see an exclusive preview of our latest ground breaking solutions, combined with demonstrations, tutorials and in-depth presentations.
2015 is without doubt one of our most significant years yet, with the launch of new hardware and software solutions from Survey/Engineering to GIS and BIM. To complement the wealth of new technologies, each of the roadshows was robustly supported by an army of Leica professionals plus the additional support of technical specialists focused on monitoring, laser scanning, GIS and Mobile Mapping all supported by our dedicated support team in Milton Keynes.
Travelling around Ireland and across the UK, the roadshows allowed us to showcase our new products and solutions to a diverse audience. Presentations were given by James Whitworth, UK sales manager, Nathan Ward, market segment manager for Asset Management and Paul Burrows, HDS/UAS and mobile mapping manager.
Leica Captivate – “Be Captivated!”
The launch of Leica Captivate was the key focus at the roadshows. Through previous teaser campaigns at Geobusiness via the secret agent theme, there was a lot of buzz and excitement about the Captivate launch with our audience keen to understand more. Put simply, the Leica Captivate Experience is an enjoyable and fully immersive customer experience in using Leica Geosystems’ latest developments in measuring technology. It offers a revolutionary way to interact with any work data in the field or office. At the heart of Leica Captivate the three focus areas are to create a unique user experience, place 3D at the heart of the concept and to improve the basics.Imperative to the Leica Captivate Experience is the software solutions, through an enjoyable customer experience, provided by a user interface. It is highly functional but is extremely intuitive and surprisingly familiar giving the user a feeling of comfort and enjoyment whilst carrying out often repetitive day to day tasks. Following the 3D Everything, 3D Everywhere vision, data is simply and completely turned into realistic and workable 3D models. Customers learnt that they can now manipulate onscreen displays to exactly create and check any worksite. As well as the software elements to the Leica Captivate Experience, the hardware elements were also launched at the roadshows. Our audience was introduced to the:
  • TS16 and TS16i Robotic Total Stations
  • TS60 – World’s most precise total station
  • MS60 – the worlds only multistation merging technologies – Scanning, GNSS and imaging

All our new Total Stations and MultiStations solutions come with Leica Captivate Software on board and with ATRplus making them the World’s first self – learning total stations.

Data collection and Leica Zeno 20

The Leica Zeno 20 was also launched at our roadshows incorporated into a presentation named ‘Redefining Data Collection’. Introduced by Nathan Ward – Market Segment Manager for Asset Management, Nathan reviewed the role that GIS has on our daily lives as well as looking at the importance of data capture for your business.

The exciting new Leica Zeno 20 was also launched at the roadshows. The Leica Zeno 20 is a handheld data collector tool that can run on an Android or Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5.3 operating system. This exciting new piece of technology means that users can now download their favourite Android apps to customise this robust and highly precise data collector into a device as simple to use as their own smartphones.

Robust and easy to use with GNSS performance at the forefront of its design, the Leica Zeno 20 can be used by anyone everywhere and Nathan explained how you don’t have to be a GIS professional. It is simplicity without limitations and the device allows precision measurement and reliable data collection. Applications include, providing ground control for UAS aerial photography, BIM data and forestry management.

Leica ScanStations

April 2015 also saw the launch of our new Leica ScanStations P30 and P40 and P16. Paul Burrows delivered an excellent presentation on the new range of ScanStations available. Focusing on the benefits of the P40, Paul explained how it has an extraordinary scanning range of up to 270m and unlike other units on the market, the data quality at long range remains brilliant. The P40 is the perfect solution for any tasks in 3D laser scanning and is our long range premium model out of the series.

The P40 also allows you to set customised point spacing for your scans. The minimum point spacing is 4mm at 100m which is the minimum allowable to still qualify for Laser Class.

Within the ScanStation range the P30 was also presented, a high versatility scanner suitable for a wide range of typical scanning solutions. With its optimal mix of speed, range and accuracy paired with unmatched robustness it is the all-in-one solution for the most comprehensive variety of applications.

Leica Pegasus 2

Moving into mobile mapping, our roadshows also focused on the Leica Pegasus 2 and the new Leica Pegasus backpack. Antonio Mendes was also introduced, our new Mobile Mapping Business Development Manager for EMEA.

Leica Geosystems Pegasus:Two and the mobile mapping process have revolutionised the world of surveying. The presentation looked further into The Leica Pegasus 2 captures professional grade data at vehicle speeds

Another exciting new product announced was the Leica Pegasus: Backpack, our new Ultra mobile reality capture sensor platform. The Leica Pegasus: Backpack enables unimaginable applications for indoor and outdoor mapping combining visual images with the accuracy of a point cloud for professional documentation – in a wearable, ergonomical, and ultra – light carbon fiber construction.
